07 January 2011

It fills you up but never stays, its only good to wash away. Today

I have literally done nothing vaguely exciting in 2011, apart from a few drunken antics on New Years Day and then I went out for a meal last night before some of my friends go back to Uni. I wish university wouldn't steal them for so long. What the actual heck am I going to do when my best friend goes in September. Hello recluse :(

Anyway, I have a few extra dates to add to my 'things to look forward to in January'. I guess these are the little things that get me through the week. I think you've always got to have something to look forward to otherwise what's the point?

Onwards and upwards then...

001. Skins - Season 5 - Starts end of Jan. I can't find an exact date but they're usually on a Thursday night, maybe the 27th? On E4
Skins is back with a brand new cast, which I guess means we're not going to find out what happened to Freddie! A lot of people around my age slate Skins for the ridiculous story lines etc, but I secretly love a bit of drama. I think sometimes people forget that it is only for entertainment purposes! It'll be sad not to see Effy in it, I've always liked her style. Style is one of the main reasons why I watch Skins, I always draw inspiration for my own outfits.
Actually, thinking back to there being no Effy... Why don't the old characters come back? I highly doubt they all go to University or move away at 18. And even so, they don't even appear in the holidays, hmmm. Yeah, I'll shut up about Skins now!

002. True Blood - Season 3 - FX - 14th January
Another one of my favourite programmes returning in January! If you haven't watched it, I think of it as an adult version of Twilight. Much more dramatic too.

003. And lastly, I won some Models Own make-up! Hurrayyy! So I shall be waiting for that to arrive. Fingers crossed I get the lilac nail varnish as apparently that's up for grabs! Anyone can enter, you've just got to become a fan on their Facebook. And then you play the 'Handbag grab'. Admittedly it took me a while but I had nothing better to do, hehe! I shall do a blog post when it arrives.

Also, this Sunday (9/01/10) you get a free Models Own make up kit from Fabulous mag/News of the World. You just have to collect two tokens, and your Tesco's has to be a participating store - which I doubt mine will be.

So, hopefully this January won't be too bad after all. Also, I found out that there isn't a Boots near me that stock Nail Inc. which means I can't get the Diet Coke free nail varnish promotion! Which is a shame.

Trends of 2011.

I always look forward to receiving an email from Fashionising.com forecasting the latest trends. I like to be ahead of the game so to speak :)
I already knew about the major trends (back in August! Hehe) It's still good to know however how that trend is evolving. Really its the micro trends that inspire me more, nails, hair, make up. I always have trouble hunting down the latest things in those categories, and Fashionising always helps me out!

Keys Trends

  • 70s glamour - Maybe give this one a miss, don't really think I've ever been a 70s girl!
  • Biker Clothing - I do like a bit of biker clothing, very pleased I decided not to chuck away my biker boots! I'm thinking a pair of panelled leather leggings would be a nice addition to my wardrobe too.
  • Punk Fashion - I've always been a fan of punk, I'll be digging out my ripped skinnies again. It'll also channel in nicely with the Biker trend.
  • 60s Ladylike - This was already coming through in a/w 10. I'm personally not a fan of midi skirts/below the knee but I do love the feminine curves. I look forward to seeing how other people pull off this trend.
Clothing Trends
  • Sheer Maxis - Hmm, fine for when you're on holiday in the baking heat, but in a dull rainy Britain... Think I'll give this one a miss! Really pretty though all the same.
  • Lace Clothing - I do like a bit of lace, especially the evolved lace. Much more classic and less provocative than the underwear as outwear trend. (The link is absolutely stunning)
  • Crochet & Macrame - Love love love it! So intricate. I think Topshop could really pull out some nice pieces.
  • Tassels - Never been sure of tassels, all I can think of are curtain pulls. I do think they look good on shoes though.
  • Bell Bottoms - Not grabbing me, I like my skinny jeans too much!
  • Capri Pants - Like! Think I'd definitely have to wait around and look at all the various styles in shops before I made my decision.
  • Tail Hems - Another of my favourites! Topshop again, I think could pull some gorgeous pieces out of the bag.
  • Stripes - Not much to comment on really. Can't go wrong with stripes! I'll be pulling out my breton top for the third year running..!
  • Jumpsuits & Playsuits - Will the jumpsuit catch on properly this year? I'd like it to.
  • Crop Tops - I like crop tops, I'll be happy to see them again. More to the point, I love how they changed for 2011, much more subtle - almost not a crop top, more of a cut out panel. I like. They also mentioned toned stomachs. Damn.
Accessories
Footwear
  • Clogs - Never had any love for clogs, definitely be passing these by. Sorry clogs :(
  • Kitten Heels - Also not a fan of kitten heels! I guess my feet are going to be pretty sad.
  • Double hair knot - Mega cute. Time for a YouTube session I think. Looks fairly simple?!
  • Braided top knot - I don't think top knots suit me, but I do like them!
  • Waved bob - I think Miss Chung brought this to fame..
  • Bob with fringe - Love full fringes, got a bohemian 60s/70s feel to it. Messy and effortless.
  • Pixie cut - Emma Watson's pixie cut is to die for. I'm sure you've all seen it already!
Phew, that was lengthy post...
I didn't see a mention of the 'pie crust collar' - the Peter Pan collars sibling, which Topshop tipped to be a hit for 2011. I shall keep my eyes open..!

2011.

Happy New Year!

Not gunna lie, didn't have the best start to 2011, made a right fool of myself.. Never drinking again! I'm not even going to go into details :S

Anywho. A few things I'm looking forward to in January 2011. Lets face it, January's probably the worst month of the year for events, such an anti climax!
001. Jack Wills end of sale, hoping to snap up a really cheap shirt before the new season things come.
002. Release of the Jack Wills spring term! Adios money.
003. Diet Coke and Nails Inc. collaboration. I have my eye on the denim blue one, I don't have a colour like that in my nail polish collection! The nude one is also calling to me...
All you have to do is purchase two 500ml bottles of diet coke, I believe they cost about £1.20 each?! Fingers crossed my local Boots store is participating...
Starts 12th Jan.

004. Getting ombre hair or doing my ombre hair. Definitely having it.
005. Seeing a few friends before they go back to Uni. Good for a final catch up.
006. My friends 18th party ;) I hope I'll be up for drinking by then. NYE seriously has ruined me.

30 December 2010

This right here will end too soon.

So 2010s drawing to a close; it's been a pretty fabulous year, sortaa.
Highlights - I left school, turned 18, discovered nail art, meet lots of new people, got a bit wreckless, went to an amazing holiday to Turkey and did too much shopping!
Low points - Started college, discovered who my real friends were, wasted my life on Farmville, a massively shit government and met some not so nice people...

Cooler than me

Went into town today - not really sure why, it was quite spontaneous. My gramps has recently retired and he was fine during the summer where he could potter around in the garden, but in the cold weather he's bored! He went round Tesco's with my mum the other day and shopping certainly isn't his favourite thing... So into town we popped.
Initially I wanted to get my hair cut because its seriously dead atm! That sort of went out the window, so did our shopping plans.
Mum: "Lets walk through Topshop to get to Boots"
Me: "Sounds good! I'll have a sneak peek..."
Half an hour later we're in the queue, lol.

Topshop skater skirt in camel £20

I saw this on the mannequin and few weeks back and fell in love with it. Had a brouse round and found the beauty and it had 15 pounds off! Result! Was very pleased because skater skirts are going to be a big news for s/s 2011 - think Louis Vuitton. Also loving the camel, slightly ashamed to say my first piece of camel coloured clothing. It's very versatile actually.
It's good quality as well. I often find Topshop things don't always last that long but I think this is a winner :)

Set off looking for Barry M red glitter nail varnish, but both Boots and Superdrug failed me. Probably left it too close to Christmas, whoops!

Couldn't pass up the chance either to go to River Island. Part of their sale has started and I can't pass up a sale! I never used to like RI, I don't think I ever looked properly and just passed it up as 'chavy'. You still get a few dodgy pieces but there are some really unique pieces and really on trend. I think their bags are always worth looking at. I had my eye on this Ring clutch because I love how they used McQueen as inspiration with the knuckleduster ring, I already have two leopard print bags though!

I was going to have these for my birthday way back in July, but I didn't fancy paying 8 quid for something I'm potentially going to ladder in a day. I'm not very careful with tights! So I snapped these up pretty quickly because they're similar to Chanel's temporary tattoos.

Overall I'm a happy bunny, went to the pub in the evening too for a long awaited catch up with my friend who's just returned from uni.
